Physics Advanced Level Practical (Paper 3) Questions
Physics 0780 (Advanced Level) Paper Structure and Weighting

Paper 2
Paper two Physics Advanced Level shall be made up of eleven questions:
Section 1 (25% of entire exam) – 1 hour
- Five compulsory short questions (30 marks)
- One pair of long either or –type question (20 marks)
Section 2 (5% of entire exam) – 30 minutes
- One compulsory question on data analysis (20 marks)
Section 3 (20 % of entire exam) - 1 hour
- Four long questions: one from Electronics, one from Communication, one from Energy resources and one from Medical Physics. Candidates will be expected to choose two questions out of four and answer in this section. Each question carries 15 marks totaling 30 marks.
The paper will be written in two and a half hours for 100 marks and its weighting will be 50% of the entire Physics Advanced Level Paper. Of the 11 questions in this paper, ≈11% shall be testing knowledge, ≈10% on comprehension, ≈22% on Application, ≈27% on Analysis, ≈17% on synthesis and, ≈13% on evaluation.
Paper 3 (Practical)
Physics Advanced Level Practical shall comprise of a:
- School Based Assessment (Physics Laboratory Manual and Field work project) which will carry 20 marks and shall weigh 5% of the entire Physics Advanced Level Examination Paper. A local examiner appointed by the CGCE Board will assess candidates’ practical books.
- Practical Test to be written during the normal June session. This exercise will be conducted in two hours and it will carry 80 marks which is 15% of the entire Physics Advanced Level Paper. Four questions from four stations will be set; each to be done in 10 minutes and candidates will rotate through in 40 minutes. A mainstream practical test to be done in 1 h 20 min. Candidates will be provided with instructions on how to carry out the practical test.
Physics Paper three carries a total of 100 marks making 20% of the entire Physics Advanced Level Paper. Ideally, the weighting shall be 5% on knowledge, 5% on comprehension, 15% on application, 35% on analysis, 20% on synthesis and 20% on evaluation.
